The Texas Renaissance Festival in Todd Mission is gearing up for its 40th anniversary bash with a throwback to the Classical Period. Renfest's program this year will feature the brand new King Midas Masquerade, endless nights of bacchanalia named for an ill-fated monarch from Greek mythology. The theme of the ball: all gold everything. The pavilion is still under construction, but the Houston Press got a sneak peak of the multi-chamber monstrosity. No mask, no service.
The nation's largest Renaissance festival will have its usual family-friendly offerings as well: rides, turkey legs, death jousts and hawkers in yellow stockings, cross-garter'd. Renfest opens October 11. PHOTOS BY SUSAN DU.
