Day of the Dead Rock Stars

Artist Carlos Hernandez debuted several new works as part of his Day of the Dead Rock Stars series Saturday night at Cactus Music's Record Ranch. Hernandez, who grew up in Lubbock and also screenprints concert posters, has been paying tribute to dead musicians with his sugar skull-inspired paintings for several years. The new set includes a triptych honoring another hero from Lubbock, Buddy Holly, along with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. Los Skarnales performed at the opening. The paintings will be on display at the Record Ranch through January. PHOTOS BY MARCO TORRES
