The Houston Astros hosted their in-state rivals the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park to open Major League Baseball’s 2013 season on Sunday night -- March 31st, 2013. This will be a season of transition as Houston has made the switch to the American League, as well as being lead by new manager Bo Porter and new owner Jim Crane. Local country singer Lyle Lovett sang the national anthem, and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt threw out the first pitch. In the fourth inning, Houston outfielder Justin Maxwell hit a two-run triple, followed by two more runs in the fifth. Texas scored twice in the top of the sixth inning before Houston pinch hitter Rick Ankiel blasted a three-run homer to right field. The home team added one last run in the eighth inning, winning the game 8-2. This is Houston’s first Opening Day win since the 2006 season. PHOTOS BY MARCO TORRES.
