The wine racks and liquor shelves at La Strada [322 Westheimer, (713)523-1014] look like artful metal sculptures. The ceiling fans look like works of art, too. And then there are the actual metal sculptures in prominent places. On the walls, the rotating artwork features some cheerful abstract expressionist canvases by a local painter. It's kind of like eating in a gallery.

La Strada's Fast Eddy: When I asked the Saturday bartender for a new and different brunch cocktail, he shot me a "give me a break" expression and offered to make a Bloody Mary. Luckily, the regular bartender was sitting right beside me at the bar. Make him a Fast Eddy, he said. The tall fizzy drink tastes a lot like a cream soda. It's a nice change of pace in the morning.

2 shots Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
Dash of Angostura bitters
Splash of 7UP
Soda water

Fill a pilsener glass with ice and pour in the rum and bitters. Add the splash of 7UP. Fill the rest of the glass with soda water. Makes one.
