We were both excited and a little skeptical when we heard about The Minkยs Tumbleweed Tuesdays, where fans of early country and folk can down whiskey specials or $10 bottles of wine while listening to Western tracks. Sounds good, even though similar events have proved to be little more than an excuse for hipsters to dress up like cowboys. The folks at The Mink seem to understand that DJs playing themed-music nights should have a bit of knowledge, not to mention more than just a collection of found-in-any-used-record-bin albums, which is why they hired vinyl jockeys Justin and Travis Edson, who also take part in Boondocksยs monthly ย60s/ย70s garage, fuzz and rock night Reverberations. The brothers are gaining equal attention at The Mink spinning a thoughtful array of country and folk that gradually tumbles into ย60s/ย70s rock.
ยThe first week was mediocre, the next time was over twice the amount of people and the latest time was double the week before. Pretty crazy,ย says bartender Austin Havican of the nightยs first few trial runs. We suggest moseying on down soon, while you can still squeeze in the door. 8 p.m. 3718 Main.
