Brown Bag Gallery TourTour of the 2008 Houston Area Exhibition artists features an in-depth look at works by Seth Alverson, Jonathan Durham, Gabriela Trzebinski and Jeff WilliamsBy Julia RameyPublished on June 25, 2008 at 1:40amInterpreting modern art is always easier when the artist is on hand to explain it all kind of like a walking, talking cheat sheet. Todays Brown Bag Gallery Tour at the University of Houstons Blaffer Gallery features an informal presentation by four artists from the ongoing 2008 Houston Area Exhibition, a survey of the local scenes best. The participating artists are Seth Alverson, whose paintings of open caskets and funeral spaces express his disappointment in academia, and Jonathan Durham, a multimedia artist whose photographs, including one of a lone woman singing in an empty church, explore the self and aloneness. Also on the menu is Gabriela Trzebinski, with her brutal paintings of life in Africa, and Jeff Williams, with his visions of beauty in decay. Noon to 1 p.m. 4800 Calhoun Road, 120 Fine Arts Building.
