22nd Annual Houston Art Car Parade and Weekend

This is art rated by the MPH

A bead-encrusted dragon, a mobile porta-potty (driven from Waco!) and the “Swamp Mutha,” a Cadillac covered in bronzed ducks and skulls were just a few of the concoctions that rolled down the street in last year’s Art Car Parade, presented by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. We can’t wait to see what’s in this year’s parade. The 22nd Annual Art Car Parade and Weekend kicks off on Friday, when fans can preview new entries (and check out art and music) downtown at Discovery Green. The main parade (with about 250 modified vehicles) begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Along the parade route at Sabine Street, kids can make minicars and paint on a real one (which might keep them distracted when the “turd sandwich” rolls by). On Sunday, revelers can head down to the Orange Show, where organizers will host a celebratory brunch and present trophies. The preview is at 6 p.m. Friday, 1500 McKinney. The parade is 1 p.m. Saturday, starting at Allen Parkway at Taft. Brunch is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, 2402 Munger. For information, call 713-926-6368 or visit www.orangeshow.org. All events are free.
