Big Range Dance Festival

Back for its ninth year, Suchu Dance’s annual Big Range Dance Festival is one of Houston’s most anticipated contemporary dance events, with three different programs of dance works spread out over eight days of performances. The event features a wide range of work, swinging from conceptual multidisciplinary experiments to narrative dance-theater to meaningless but well-executed absurdity.

More About

We’re most intrigued by Amanda Jackson and Matthew Cumbie’s thinking seeing standing feeling object of attention, which questions the traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity, in Program A (June 3 and 4); Atlanta choregrapher Liana Conyers’s I know this much…,which seems to have a dark, gothic streak running through it, in Program B (June 10 and 11); and local Daniel Adame’s Touch Base Spring Action, described as “a counterbalance of sexy and bland,” in Program C (June 17 and 18). 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Through June 18. Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex, 2201 Preston. For information, visit www.bigrange.org. $14 to $20.
