Love Pain Passion and Progress: A Poe-A-Trical Life Story

The Black Box Theatre Group has only been around about a year and a half, but that doesn’t stop them from venturing into the very brave territory of an original play called Love Pain Passion and Progress: A Poe-A-Trical Life Story, written by Houston’s own Joseph Palmore, a regular at the Ensemble Theatre.

Black Box’s planning director, Darnetta Nelson, says Palmore’s script is a collection of sketches. “They capture the daily trials and triumphs of what we go through in life,” she says. “One sketch centers on a man and a woman and cheating spouses. There’s one about a man and a woman and the man is jobless, and the woman has to take the man’s role. There’s one about a wedding and love and passion.” Nelson speaks quickly and with excitement as she lists all the various troubles the characters in Palmore’s script find themselves in. There are also dancers in the show and even some comedy. And the run is short — just two nights — so head to Freneticore Theatre at 8 p.m. today or tomorrow. 5102 Navigation. For information, call 832-577-9715 or visit www.theblackboxtheatre.org. $15 to $20.
