Composer/conceptual artist Robert Thoth came up with the idea, giving the music and story to French, who then worked with the FrenetiCore dancers to create the choreography. “This is the first time we workshopped movements together as a group,” French says. “Usually I show up with everything all mapped out and say, ‘You stand there, you go there and this is on count seven.’ None of that happened this time. I am defiantly not the only choreographer for this show.”
French says the group gladly embraced the show’s dark theme. “Dance is not just about who can kick their leg the highest or who can wear the prettiest tutu. We want dance to be relevant and for people to walk away from this show understanding their relationships, and the traumas that they’ve been through, a little more.” 8 p.m. Frenetic Theater, 5102 Navigation.
