Canadian-born blues diva Sue Foley takes a new musical tack on her latest album and tour, a musical departure courtesy of Americana/blues singer-songwriter Peter Karp, who collaborated with Foley in turning a year of letters between the two into an album. In He Said, She Said — The Letters, what begins as casual correspondence between two mutual admirers turns serious as they begin to reveal more and more of themselves. And while Karp’s sound is more of a typical Americana mix of folk, blues and country than Foley’s electric blues, as a duo they’ve put together a genre-bending album that softens the blues elements with South Texas horns and other instrumentation. We don’t really know what to expect from the duo’s tour that chugs into town this week, but with two heavy blues pickers like Foley and Karp involved, there will certainly be some serious guitar fireworks.
