Bob Barker has been reminding us for years: “Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.” The message apparently hasn’t sunk in, though: In Houston alone, shelters humanely euthanized about 20,000 dogs and cats last year. And fewer than half were strays.
Learning ghastly statistics like these spurred filmmaker and animal lover Stacy Schoolfield to action. Over a period of two years, Schoolfield created the film Rescue Me: A Dogumentary, as she fostered, rescued and found shelter for about 50 animals. The lesson: Bob Barker was right. Volunteers can’t make any headway when awareness is low. So come by to educate yourself รยขรขยยฌรขย and bring your two-legged friends.
