Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead redefined the horror genre with its low-budget, gory “teens go into the woods and are possessed by ancient demons” plot. It’s terrifying and creative, and because of its cheesy effects (think flying eyeballs) and gratuitous violence (chainsaw havoc abounds), it’s often hailed as the quintessential cult film. Starring Bruce Campbell as the eponymous antihero Ash, it’s got wicked humor and plenty of “eww”-inducing moments. This film serves up an over-helping of everything horror — chopped-off body parts, sadistic forests and evil chanting galore. Even if you’re not a Deadite (that’s a fan club member for everything Evil Dead), you won’t want to miss the No Label Brewing Company Presents The Evil Dead Trilogy.

Along with The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, its horror-comedy sequels, are screened in order. Robert Saucedo, programming director of Alamo Drafthouse, tells us, “We’re all big Evil Dead fans here!” When Alamo programmers heard that there was a limited-edition Evil Dead-inspired beer being concocted by No Label Brewing Company, they knew they had to make an evening of it. The beer is Boomstick Double Black Rye Coffee IPA — a nod to Ash’s weapon of choice in Army of Darkness.
