Said to be one of the most ยvisually sumptuous and intellectually provocative examples of anime ever made,ย Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence sets the standard by which other films in the genre are measured. Set in the future, where bodies and souls are easily exchanged and replaced, Innocence follows a group of special agents as they try to stop a murderous group of androids. The film, directed by Oshii Mamoru, examines the increasingly blurry line between humanity and technology. ยThe first Ghost in the Shell was very highly regarded,ย says Tracy Stephenson, Assistant Curator of Film at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, ยbut this one is thought of as a perfect example of anime. Weยre showing it in conjunction with the ยRed Hot Asian Art Today from the Chaney Family Collectionย exhibit.
