Electroma is the first film by French DJ duo Daft Punk. The flick follows two robots as they travel across the U.S. in a quest to become human. They reach a town where scientists fashion them with oversize, -rubbery-looking faces that melt in the sun, then thereย’s a fiery conclusion ย– and thatย’s pretty much it for the story line. This plot line may not sound impressive, but the 74-minute movie is still receiving plenty of hype from Daft Punkย’s rabid fans, who appreciate the filmย’s striking visual images. The film is the next step in Daft Punkย’s experimentation with visual media, which can also be seen in their music videos and live shows. The contrast between the helmet–wearing robots and the vast Southwest landscape, set to a sound track by the likes of Brian Eno and Curtis Mayfield, is done well enough to silence critics (even if itย’s because their mouths are agape in horror).
