Gulf Coast Reading Series poet Samuel Amadon is well versed in television. (Get it: versed, poet? Never mind.) His piece ย“Spy Poemย” combines his passions for both prime time and the written word. ย“[Iย’m] trying to somehow put together my love of terrible TV drama shows and poetry,ย” he says and laughs, ย“you know, like The Unit and Without a Trace.ย” ย“Spy Poemย” features a character named Cool Breeze, which comes from The Unit. ย“David Mamet is going to have to forgive me,ย” says Amadon.

Amadon says these programs are valid references. ย“There is a language in there that I think is really interesting. There is a way in shows like that where theyย’ll refer to someone on the run being ย‘in the windย’ย…and I think there is no reason why that canย’t be in poetry.ย”
