Chris Martin and Chris Phillips as IAmDynamite is one of the great modern duo-bands that manages to make two guys sound like an army, easily putting them up there with acts like Chromeo and our own Morgue City.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Supermegafantastic f or the infectious rock and rhythm machine that it is. “Carolina” alone is worth a thousand lesser songs. We got all up in the Chrises’ collective grill to find out what we could learn from them in 30 seconds.
Rocks Off: What is the worst song in the world?
Chris Martin: “Home” by Phillip Phillips. What’s selling this year, Mumford and Sons? Cool, then we’ll do that.
Chris Phillips: “Friday” by Rebecca Black. And it’s the worst because that random dude rapped on it. Awful!
RO: What is the best lyric in the world?
CM: “I blew up your body, but you blew my mind,” from “In Every Dream Home a Heartache” by Roxy Music.
CP: “She’s a wild one uhooooooo” from “Maneater” by Hall and Oates.
RO: Someone throws a beer bottle at you on stage. What do you do?”
CM: Jump into the crowd, throwing caution to the wind, and engage in a Fight Club-style free-for-all.
CP: Drink it if it’s full. Throw it back if it’s empty.
RO: Without worrying about space, time, or the laws of physics, what would be the ultimate gig to play?
CM: BEING James Brown, live at the Apollo in 1962.
CP: Well, first choice… Houston! Close second… International Space Station. Because it’s international… Everyone is welcome.
RO: What would you buy with a million dollars?
CM: One million bananas.
CP: Hovercraft, helicopter, Shelby Cobra, and nice house.
RO: What would you buy with your last dollar?
CM: One banana.
CP: Five-piece Chicken McNugget.
RO: If you could canonize another musician, who would it be and of what would they be the patron saint?
CM: David St. Hubbins, who would then be Saint David Saint Hubbins. Patron saint of British accents.
CP: Phil Collins, the saint of magical songs and long careers.
RO: What will be written beneath the statue future generations erect in your honor.
CM: “He did it.”
CP: “Here is the final resting place of Sir Christopher Phillips. He was awesome.”
