Brazil has been in the news a lot lately, thanks to some sports match they had down there. Houston’s Brazilian Festival gives those of us who didn’t get down to South America for the World Cup games a chance to catch up on the country. A celebration of its arts, culture, food and music, the festival includes local Brazilian performers (Batala Houston, Choro Ao Ponto, Samba Soul), a large arts and crafts mall offering unique paintings and sculptures for sale, and a Kids Area with aspects pretty much part of any cultural festival (face painting, balloon art). Food lovers will be drawn to the cuisine of local Brazilian chefs. They include beef, chicken, seafood and rice dishes by Alex Santana (Cater Brazil), Brazilian gourmet hot dogs by Katia Lessa (Comme Il Faut), and desserts by Verena Gasparin Arus (Brigadeiro Brasil). Houston’s take on South America’s largest country has a lot to offer — so practice your Portuguese.
