Legal constraints prevent us from calling the 13th Annual Houston Press Menu of Menus® Extravaganza presented by Stella Artois the most exciting food event on the planet. Or saying that it’s the one event Houston food fans can’t miss…so we won’t. (But we will strongly hint at it. Wink, wink.)

There are more than 40 local restaurants providing tasting samples. Several — Pi Pizza Truck, Number 13 Prime Steak and Seafood, Big Eyed Fish, Andes Cafe and Prestige Oyster’s Inc. — make their Menu of Menus® debut while others — Maine-ly Sandwiches, Fat Cat Creamery, Mia Bella Trattoria, Shipley Do-Nuts and Zelko Bistro — return to the festival.

Along with food, beer and wine samplings, the 4th Annual Iron Fork Competition is on the schedule. Returning champion chef Kevin Naderi faces off against chef Randy Rucker. The two are tasked with creating one appetizer and two entrées using ingredients from Whole Foods Market. (A secret ingredient will be announced from the stage at the start of the competition.)

Insiders know to opt for VIP admission (6 p.m. entry and complimentary valet parking). 7 p.m. Silver Street Station, 1500 Silver Street. For information, visit houstonpress.com.
