Sometimes the title of an event lends no clue as to what to expect. That’s not the case for the 2010 Big Range Dance Festival. For three weekends, choreography in a multitude of styles, concocted by both local and national dance masters, is given a place in the Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex. Some of the selections from this weekend’s Program C include Response by Karen Schupp; Natural Disaster, a duet and a solo performance from New York City’s Erin Reck “inspired by the naturalness of disasters, from global to personal”; Unhinged, University of Houston dance instructor Becky Valls’s one-woman work about admittedly “nothing special;” and an as-yet-untitled collaboration between Valls and Scates. The Saturday performance will be followed by a closing-night party for the entire festival, which will include a DJ, food, libations and, we’re guessing, more dancing. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 2201 Preston. For information, call 713-529-1819 or visit www.barnevelder.org. $14 to $18.
