Egypt isnt the only place in the world with pyramids, you know. Ancient peoples in Latin America, especially the Maya, built a few of their own. Like their Egyptian counterparts, the Mayan pyramids were aligned to the stars in the night sky. As youll see in the planetarium show 2012: Mayan Prophecies, the prophecies by Mayan astronomers continue to influence modern thinking. Through a complex system of calendars, the Mayans predicted the end of the world as we know it would come in 2012 which, by the way, is just five short months away. Youll virtually visit the ancient cities of Tikal, Palenque, Chichen Itza and Uxmal, and see how those long-ago astronomers looked into the sky to see the future. 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Through September 2. Houston Museum of Natural Science, 5555 Hermann Park Drive. For information, call 713-639-4629 or visit www.hmns.org. Free to $8.
