When evacuees from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita began pouring into Houston, the meshing of cultures into a sort of sociological gumbo was inevitable. That gumbo will be celebrated this year at The Orange Show’s A Gulf Coast Christmas. The event features music from the New Orleans-born/now Houston-based Soul Rebels Brass Band, which combines traditional jazz with hip-hop and funk, and zydeco music from Houston native Corey “Lil’ Pop” Ledet. The event will also include sweets from Treebeard’s and a children’s area with face painting, balloon art and other fun. Roger Wood, author of Texas Zydeco, will emcee the show. 7 p.m. 2402 Munger Street. For information, call 713-926-6368 or visit www.orangeshow.org. Free.
