In the play Anansi the Spider and the Middle Passage, Shontay, a young African girl kidnapped by slave traders and captive on a ship to America, has little to comfort her as she makes the treacherous journey. Shontay’s mother distracts her by telling her African legends about Anansi the trickster spider and Nyame the Sky God. Presented by Main Street Theater’s Kids on Stage, the play shows how Shontay and her mother are inspired and encouraged by the clever spider and his adventurous spirit as they prepare to meet their fate. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
