Andrew Porter

Author Andrew Porter won't have far to drive when he comes to Houston to read from The Theory of Light and Matter - he lives in San Antonio. The characters in his book, however, live all across America. Theory, which is a collection of short stories, won Porter the Flannery O'Connor Award (he also has the Glenna Luschei Award and a Pushcart Prize on his shelf).

All of the characters in Theory share an overwhelming sense of loneliness and loss. Hampered by the often fluid and sometimes elusive qualities of memory, they struggle to understand where they are by looking at where they have been. 5 p.m. Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet. KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
