The talent showcased at the B-Boy HoDown 4th International Hip Hop Festival might have you thinking twice about busting a move. Renowned dancers from all over the world are stopping in town for the competition, which features crew, tag-team and solo battles in traditional break-dancing and other styles such as popping, locking, whacking, uprock and house. Everyone is welcome to sign up for a chance to win the cash prizes, but unless youยve had a few years practicing nonstop like many of these guys and gals, we recommend you reverse Young MCยs advice ย just stand there, donยt bust a move. Graffitti and MC battles will also be a part of todayยs preliminary events as the competition heats up for tomorrowยs finals.
Other events include a screening of the documentary Mural Kings followed by a panel discussion on the public perception of graffiti at Rice University Cinema and the art exhibit ยLove Movementsย at the Community Arts Collective. Those looking for a noncompetitive chance to get down can head over to Fridayยs festival kick-off party, which includes a DJ exhibition with performances by former members of the X-Ecutioners and Ill Insanity featuring renowned turntablists DJ Rob Swift, Total Eclipse and DJ Precision, among others.
This event, along with all other festival happenings, will be recorded for a DVD to be released internationally. Keep this in mind, especially if you plan on getting your drink and your dance on.
