Best Museum Outside City Limits: Rosenberg Railroad Museum
The acreage of the Rosenberg Railroad Museum is tiny compared to some of the bigger names associated with Houston, but they pack a lot of content into that space. Dedicated to railroading over the past century, the museum tackles everything from luxury travel cars to the impact of the rails on music to the growth of Fort Bend. Along for the ride is a dedicated staff of highly knowledgeable volunteers who expertly guide all visitors through the space with explanations. There’s no “quick peek” into this museum; Plan on being there for a couple of hours.
One especially impressive segment is the model train collections. The museum has a small army of enthusiasts who have put together both indoor and outdoor setups that boggle the mind. The sheer craft and artistry that are on display in their landscapes and models is breath-taking. Once you’re done with the miniatures, explore the luxury car The Quebec that is on the property. It feels like something outside the Gilded Age and has been lovingly restored.
