Best Museum Outside City Limits: Galveston Railroad Museum
Galveston is such a great tourist attraction that you might overlook one of its hidden gems, the Galveston Railroad Museum. The museum, opened in the ’80s, sits on the site of the original Galveston railroad depot, dating back to the 1800s. While their collection was severely damaged during Hurricane Ike in 2008, their collection is still impressive including model train sets and several dozen actual rail cars and locomotives.
Despite being a “museum,” this is that particularly fascinates kids. Each year in November and December, they host the Polar Express train ride, a must for any young conductor hopefuls. But there is something here for kids of all ages.
