The Russian Cultural Center brings the precision and grandiosity that made Moscowยs Bolshoi Ballet famous to Houston when Marianna Ryzhkina, principal dancer of the famed company, stars in the Carmen Suite. Performing with the Metropolitan Classical Ballet, where Alexander Vetrov, a former Bolshoi soloist, is a co-artistic director, Ryzhkina is making her Houston debut. The Carmen Suite, based on Georges Bizetยs legendary opera about the fiery, beautiful gypsy and her entanglements with the ill-fated soldier and a famous matador, is also being seen in Houston for the first time. Todayยs program includes ยPas de Quatre,ย which first appeared in 1845 at the command of Queen Victoria, and ยBonjour Brel,ย set to five songs by the French songwriter Jacques Brel. 7:30 p.m. Wortham Theater Center, 501 Texas.
