Cy Coleman is a Broadway legend. One of musical theaterยs most prolific songwriters, he wrote the tunes for Sweet Charity, I Love My Wife, Little Me and Seesaw, among others. But in 1990 he outdid himself with City of Angels, an intriguingly complicated comedy about a young L.A. writer named Stine who creates Stone, a character for a detective tale. The story of the two men plays out onstage with each characterยs life set to its own color scheme and stylized music. Anyone whoยs listened to ยWitchcraftย or ยThe Best Is Yet to Comeย knows just how memorable Colemanยs tunes are, and the folks at Masquerade Theatre have brought together some of Houstonยs best singers, including Ilich Guardiola as Stine and Luther Chakurian as Stone, for the production.
