Last year's edition of Comicpalooza at the George R. Brown Convention Center was a success all around, giving Houstonians three days to mingle with one another and meet some of their favorite sci-fi idols, and, of course, to buy plenty of collectibles to fill their homes with.

The organizers have begun to announce this year's special guest appearances, and so far they have some fun names signed on to appear.

SLIDESHOW: Comicpalooza 2012

REWIND: Hottest Cosplay at Comicpalooza 2012

The names include Michelle Rodriguez; Cary Elwes; Peter Mayhew; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Avery Brooks and Armin Shimerman; comic-book legend Bernie Wrightson; René Auberjonois; fifth Doctor Who Peter Davison; Ian McNeice; Teen Wolf dad James Hampton; Sam Huntington; Craig Parker; novelist Kevin J. Anderson; and Alan Dean Foster.

My Little Pony voice actresses Andrea Libman and Tabitha St. Germain will no doubt be the favorite attractions of the local Bronies.

Invader ZIM voice Richard Horvitz is also on board, but I know him better as the geek from Summer School.

Most important, David Yost and Walter E. Jones, commonly known as the blue and black Power Rangers, will be there. Calling all millennials -- be sure to request this weekend off.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
