Comedian and actor David Alan Grier has plenty to say about new President Barack Obama, recently telling GQ, “My white friends say, ‘Ooh, this must be great for you.’ And I’m like, ‘Why? I’m only half happy, because he’s only half black. Give me a real black man, a scary one. Then I’ll be happy.’” Grier, who calls Obama “somewhere just below ‘messiah’ but above ‘pretty, pretty unicorn,’” says that “the old political jokes are archaic.” The executive producer, writer and star of the Comedy Central series The Chocolate News, a satirical take on African-American news, Grier will no doubt have some new jokes ready for his show at the Improv. 8 p.m. Thursday, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 7620 Katy Freeway.
