Writer Deirdre Shawยs Love or Something Like It: A Novel has been called ยpiercingly insightful,ย ยgracefulย and ยrazor-sharp.ย Thatยs heady praise for a first novel, especially for a first novel thatยs mostly concerned with the too-familiar story of a thirtysomething woman finding her way through an emotional minefield filled with divorce, horrible bosses and illicit affairs. Itยs ground thatยs been extremely well covered. Shaw puts her own spin on the story, of course. The woman at the center of Love or Something Like It marries a stand-up comic, has a brother who is ยlike a house burning downย and has an affair with her egomaniacal boss. (Oh yeah, that always turns out well.) Like her protagonist, Shaw has written for television. Weยre hoping thatยs where the similarities end.
