If you can find home furnishings in a book store, why not go to a gallery for one-of-a-kind ceramic table settings? 18 Hands Gallery is holding its fourth “Dining In” show, an exhibition of practical ceramics, like plates, cups, tureens and pitchers – “the art of the table,” as the gallery puts it. The styles range from classic and elegant to the downright quirky and bizarre. Pottery aficionados and design hounds will get the most bang out of the show, but everybody eats and drinks. Go easy on the bourbon, or the shards of that salad bowl you just bought might end up on the floor. Makes us wonder if 18 Hands has insurance for “bulls in the china shop.” 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Through September 4. 249 West 19th. For information, call 713-869-3099 or visit www.18handsgallery.com.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 10. Continues through Sept. 4, 2011
