The two artists exhibiting in “El Cuerpo Sutil/The Subtle Body,” Miguel Angel Rojas from Bogotá, Colombia, and John Sparagana of Houston, both explore the issue of political unrest in their work. Rojas contributes two textile-based installations, while Sparagana adds several remixed media images (think sliced, painted and hand-fatigued inkjet prints). Sparagana should be an especially familiar name to Houston audiences, since he’s the chairperson of the Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts at Rice University, where he’s also a professor of painting and drawing.
