Between her touring with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and running her own record label, itยs a wonder fiddler/singer Elana James has found the time to swing through Houston. Jamesยs repertoire includes laid-back jazz, including the classic ยI Got It Bad (And That Ainยt Good)ย, perfect for a little cheek-to-cheek slow dance. Far from being stuck in a slow tempo, sheยs apt to light the place up with a quick number like ยTwenty Four Hours a Day,ย which has a slightly Gypsy appeal and a faint French accent that will be familiar to Django Reinhardt fans. After revving things up, she can bed them right back down with a sweet bluegrass sound, singing ยAll the World and I,ย full of plaintive vocals. 9 p.m. Continental Club, 3700 Main.
