Ruth Pastine uses a tiny two-inch brush to create the large-scale monochromatic paintings in ยEver Present.ย The works seem seamless, as if swept on with a huge brush, when, in fact, they are made up of thousands of small daubs of paint. ยItยs a long, laborious process, very methodical,ย says Ariene Roesch of Gallery Sonja Roesch. ยItยs almost as if every piece is an experiment.ย
Pastineยs technique results in luminosity, as if the painting are glowing. ยItยs in the same vein as Rothko,ย says Roesch, ยwhere you sit and meditate, and the painting changes as the light changes. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
