Farouk Hosny has impressively managed to wield his artistic prowess both as a painter and a politician. His work has been shown all over the world, and heยs created many new pieces exclusively for his current exhibition, ยFarouk Hosny: The Energy of Abstraction,ย at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In his official function as Egyptยs Minister of Culture, Hosnyยs established an opera house, theaters and galleries; in 2006 he created a kerfuffle after calling the hijab a ยstep backย for Egyptian women. But this exhibit is all about his abstract, angular forms, bold use of color and homage to the landscapes of his native land, not politics. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 12:15 to 7 p.m. Sundays.
