Friendzgiving (thatยs Thanksgiving, Young Republic-style) involves food, glitter and pilgrim hats. Never celebrated Friendz-giving? Donยt worry, no one else has either. Arts group the Young Republic just invented the alternative holiday/crafts fair. Hereยs how it works: First, a select group of artists gets together at the Joanna Gallery on November 15. Theyยll cook a traditional Thanksgiving dinner (everyoneยs been assigned a dish ย turkey, cran-berries, the usual). And theyยll have a crafts session, creating turkey hands and the aforementioned pilgrim hats. The whole -cooking-creating process will be recorded. On November 17, the resulting art goes on display (and yes, theyยll be serving leftovers at the exhibitยs opening reception).
Participating artists include Daniel Adame (stuffing), JoAnn Park (mashed potatoes team), Brian Rod (green bean casserole) and Laura White (cranberry sauce). Todayยs reception runs 8 p.m. to
10 p.m. 4014 Graustark. Through November 24. For information, call 713-825-1976 or visit www.youngrepublic.org. Free.
