If youve always wanted to make the leap from appreciator to collector, the Houston Center for Photographys 2009 Print Auction Exhibition is a good place to start. The worlds top artists, galleries and collectors have contributed photographic art for the February 12 event, whose entire proceeds go to producing exhibitions, educational initiatives and outreach programs. To prep for the auction, swing by the HCP and check out the dozens of shots to choose from, including one of O. Rufus Lovetts black-and-white candid shots of a Kilgore Rangerettes dance squad member and Arthur Meyersons stunning shot of a white stallion running in Mexico. You might need a few visits to make up your mind, but you can get a head start at the opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 23. Regular viewing hours for the exhibit are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Through February 10. 1441 West Alabama.
