Local favorite novelist — and the city’s first poet laureate — Gwendolyn Zepeda joins Houston Police officer and author Sarah Cortez at this year’s Houston LibroFEST. Writers Guadalupe Garcia McCall, René Saldaña Jr. and Manuel Ramos are also set to take the mike during the afternoon-long celebration. Along with the reading and signing sessions, The Express Children’s Theater performs Legends of Wind & Fire, while Houston Grand Opera’s Storybook Opera and Mariachis provide musical entertainment. Part of the Houston Public Library observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, LibroFEST also includes SpeakOUT, an open-mike session for LGBT authors and poets.
