It doesnt matter if youve never lassoed a horse pull on your boots and dust off your Stetson, because everyones a cowboy or cowgirl during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. And while the concerts get all the attention (cmon, Jonas Brothers!), there are actually, oh, a few more events going on. Things kick off with the Downtown Rodeo Parade, while carnivorous teams of cowpokes compete in the Worlds Championship Bar-B-Que contest. Rodeo events include horse cutting, roping, sheep dog trials and Xtreme Bulls. The little fellers can enjoy a carnival and pig races, and theres lots of livestock to look at and pet. Theres even something called a Beef Trivia contest so brush up on your knowledge of prime cuts and dry rubs. Those looking for a little divine guidance and protection can attend the Cowboy Church (just dont be surprised to hear a lot of those Xtreme Bull riders praying about getting to the rodeo finals instead of getting to heaven). Times vary. Through March 22. Reliant Park, Arena and Stadium, One Reliant Park. For a complete schedule and tickets, call 832-667-1000 or visit www.hlsr.com. Prices vary.
