Anyone who’s visited the Houston Police Department headquarters during the last few months has seen bits and pieces of the new Houston Police Museum peeking out from behind partitions during its construction. Now it’s finished and open for viewing. A scaled replica of an HPD helicopter is hung from the ceiling as if it were about to swoop down over the exhibit of period uniforms, photographs, drawings of some of the earliest police stations in the city and other assorted memorabilia. Located in the lobby of the HPD headquarters, the museum is available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday. 1200 Travis. For information, call 713-247-5420 or visit www.houstonpolice.org. Free.
