Every once in a while a film comes along that sweeps every major Academy Award. The Lord of the Rings did it a few years ago; back in 1934, it was It Happened One Night. The screwball comedy featured the illustrious talents of Claudette Colbert as a runaway socialite and Clark Gable as the cynical newspaper reporter she meets during her escape. What she doesn’t know is that the reporter has just been fired, but if he can get the scoop on her unexpected disappearance, he can get his job back. That’s a task made more difficult by the fact that the two are instantly repelled by each other (translation: by the end of the movie they fall in love). See director Frank Capra’s take on a night of adventure with two of the biggest stars of the era. 8:30 p.m. Domy Books, 1709 Westheimer. For information, call 713-523-3669 or visit www.domystore.com.
