Chalk up another world premiere for DiverseWorks with Jack Ferver & Marc Swanson: Two Alike. This time, the performing and visual arts powerhouse has partnered with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston to commission a new work by choreographer/writer/performer Ferver and visual artist Swanson.
In press materials, CAMH Director Bill Arning notes that ยFerver and Swanson explore very similar themes in their works,ย referring to the pairยs exploration of polished beauty created from the chaos and destruction that humans encounter in everyday life. ยAlthough their approach is different,ย says Arning, ยSwanson uses objects and Ferver uses his body and language ย the two artists, recognizing kindred spirits, fuel each other.ย With Swanson contributing unrefined, organic sculpture pieces for the setting, Ferver enacts the story of a man as he moves from a simple, rural youth to a complex, urban adulthood. Two Alike accompanies Swansonยs solo exhibition currently on view at CAMH, ยPerspectives 175: Marc Swanson: The Second Story.ย 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. DiverseWorks, 1117 East Freeway. For information, call 713-335-3445 or visit www.diverseworks.org. Pay-what-you-can to $20.
