Supernatural novelist Jeannie Holmes‘s debut title, Blood Law, is a bloody mess. We’re not talking about her writing – that’s deliciously fresh and witty. We’re talking about the storyline, which centers on vampires in a small Southern town (hmm, that sounds vaguely familiar). The vamps, who are technically dead, are being found savagely mutilated, crucified and headless, which technically makes them even deader. A sexy female vampire with a dark past is sent in by the fanged version of the FBI to stop the killings. Also on hand is her former mentor/backstabbing ex-lover. It’s all bloody, messy – and fun. 3:30 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-524-8597 or visit www.murderbooks.com. Free.
