When Otabenga Jones & Associates partnered with the Menil Collection for the exhibit ย“Lessons from Below,ย” the idea was to encourage dialogue about the civil rights movement, African history, black culture and the continuing struggle of African–Americans in this country. The dialogue will be led today by Jihad Abdulmumit, the former Black Panthers member and political prisoner who has continued his activism by writing essays, books and plays and managing a nonprofit health clinic in Virginia. After the lecture at the Menil, Abdulmumit will head over to the Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex for a performance of his two-man show The Shootout. 2 p.m. lecture.
