Texas-based author Joy Preble signs and discusses her newest young-adult title, The Sweet Dead Life. The paranormal story follows Jenna, who is having a really rough time of it. Her father is gone. Her mother is so depressed she can’t get out of bed. And her older brother, Casey, is trying to keep things going by working two jobs (a task made all the more difficult since he’s stoned most of the time). To add to her difficulty, Jenna’s sick. Really, really sick. Casey tries to rush her to the hospital, but manages to crash the car instead. Jenna wakes up in the emergency room. Casey doesn’t. At least not quite. Casey’s dead, but his spirit is sticking around to help Jenna figure out what’s going on — like who might be trying to kill her.
