In the past, the only ice to be seen in Galveston during winter was floating
in the cocktail glasses of moms watching their kids emerge from heated swimming
pools. Not so this year. The folks at Moody Gardens have moved their indoor
ice rink to an outdoor tent for their annual Festival of Lights. The rink isn’t
huge, so you may not have room for that triple toe loop you’ve been itching
to try, but it’s fun for the kids. After a skate, you can grab a hot chocolate
and take a walking tour of the lighted exhibits, listen to a holiday choir or
pop inside the Visitors Center, where the little munchkins can tell St. Nick
how nice they’ve been this year. Dusk to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays from
Saturday, November 22, through December 14; open daily from December 15 through
January 3. Moody Gardens, One Hope Boulevard, 800-582-4673. $4.95; $2.50 skate
rental. — Greg Barr

Jungle Boogie
WED 11/26
Kids must enjoy the bizarre, or we would’ve seen the last of that hyperactive sponge long ago. Disney’s jungle characters may seem tame by comparison, but put ’em on skates, and there’s definitely a wacky factor. Disney’s Jungle Adventures On Ice: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 26. Compaq Center, 10 East Greenway Plaza. For tickets and a full schedule, call 713-829-3700 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. $8 to $50. — Lisa Simon
