The Kids in the Hall aren’t kids anymore. “I guess we’re not the young punks of comedy anymore, but we still feel like we are,” says Dave Foley, one-fifth of the influential ‘90s comedy troupe. After on-and-off hiatuses and a couple of tours performing old sketches from their popular HBO show, Foley and the other comedic Canadians decided to give writing another go. “Everything was driven by the idea of, ‘Let’s sit down and see if we still have anything to say,’” he says. And they did.

The group returned to the stage this year with new material, but don’t worry, fanboys — Foley says it still feels like the good ol’ days. “We’re still basically the same guys, unfortunately,” he says. “It’s just the same sort of mindset or lack of intellect that’s always driven our work.” If this is the case, it’s doubtful fans will find anything unfortunate about today’s show.

Kids in the Hall were known for their quirky take on everyday life, but Foley says the work was never intended to be interpreted that way. “The things that made us laugh tended to be things other people thought were shocking or, you know, weird,” he says. “To us it all made sense. To us, if it made us laugh in the room, then we would do it.”

Foley says their prior success does create challenges. “We live with our own legacy, and there’s a little bit of pressure to be as good as we used to be.” See if these kids can pull it off today at 8 p.m. Verizon Wireless Theater, 520 Texas.
