Show your kids the cultural aspects of Christmas arenยt limited to consumer culture at the Las Posadas Wonder Weekend. Las Posadas are the Mexican nativity customs based on Mary and Josephยs search for shelter, or posada, in Bethlehem just before the birth of Christ. Performances and hands-on activities bring the traditions alive. There will be several Spotlight Performances by Mariachi Hermosura Juvenil, a group of young local musicians (6:30 p.m. on December 11 and 2 p.m. on December 13). Childrenยs Museum staffers will lead kids in daily craft sessions where theyยll create manger collages, paper bag piรฑatas, pinwheel poinsettias and faroles (paper lanterns) used to decorate Mexican homes during the holidays. Activities vary from day to day, so check the museumยs calendar online or at the front desk. Las Posadas is part of the Seasons of Sharing series of events; Hanukkah and Kwanzaa Wonder Weeks are coming up. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday (with free admission after 5 p.m.) and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Childrenยs Museum of Houston, 1500 Binz. For information, call 713-522-1138 or visit www.cmhouston.org. Free to $5.
